It’s a very busy time of year for us right now, but we did manage to sneak a few minutes with Accountant, Sally McEldrew, to ask her some questions.
When did you join the team at CountPro?
I commenced as a Graduate Accountant in October 2014.
What do you enjoy most about working at CountPro?
We have such a variety of clientele and I’m fortunate to have worked on a range of jobs over the years which have allowed me to gain insightful experience and knowledge. I also love working with the team to assist clients in their business needs and provide guidance where needed.
Tell us about any clubs or community groups that you are involved in.
I’ve volunteered at Ballarat Cystic Fibrosis events for a number of years. It’s a locally run group who do an amazing job to support the families of people living with cystic fibrosis.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I love baking, spending time with friends and family and trying the latest café or restaurant in town.
When restrictions allow, where would you like to go on your next holiday?
I was planning a trip to Europe just before COVID. Italy is somewhere I would love to visit!
Do you enjoy working remotely during the period of COVID restrictions? And why?
I’ve found it challenging at times.
Our team each has detailed expertise in specific areas of accounting and taxation and we often lean on each other to build our knowledge across the entire team, however working remotely does not allow for the usual discussion we have amongst the team when a query or unusual issue arises. I’ve also found it challenging not seeing everyone on a regular basis, as I love catching up with the team.
As an expert in taxation and financial reporting, what tips can you provide to clients as they prepare for this tax season?
One of the fundamentals for clients to be prepared is maintaining complete and accurate records throughout the year, including copies of documentation and diary evidence to substantiate claims for work related expenses.
Another important tip is knowing your obligations and due dates to ensure compliance, and where unsure reach out to us. I’ve taken on more payroll processing work recently, and for employers ensuring compliance with Awards, minimum rates and paying and reporting on time are essential.
Which change that you have seen implemented during COVID do you think will be adopted permanently?
I think one of the biggest changes during COVID has been the ability for people to conduct their work or business from anywhere and the flexibility that offers people. We are already seeing a much greater shift in people relocating and continuing their employment and I think we will continue to see this.
